One solution to ending children of illegal immigrants that are born in the United States from automatically being citizens is by eliminating the Fourteenth Amendment. The Fourteenth Amendment states "all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States". It should be removed so that children of illegal immigrants will not be citizens automatically.
Another solution to ending children of illegal immigrants that are born in the U.S. from being citizens is by reforming the Fourteenth Amendment. The amendment should be changed so that if at least one parent of the child is a United States citizen, then that child can be considered a U.S. citizen.

Let it be the reform of the Fourteenth Amendment so that it states "all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States if one or both parents are legal citizens". This reform will be implemented by the Department of Homeland Security starting August 1, 2011.

I think that this proposal will work because if at least one parent of the child is a legal citizen then the child and parent will be able to stay in the United States legally and safely. Illegal citizens will therefore be more likely to apply for U.S. citizenship.
